Refinancing with GetSmart® in three easy steps
GetSmart makes refinancing your mortgage as easy as 1,2,3. Here’s how to get started.
1. Fill out the GetSmart form and get matched.
The GetSmart form takes just two minutes, and is three easy steps. You’ll answer questions about the property, your current mortgage and your finances and tell us how to contact you. There’s no social security number required to be matched with lenders. There are also some optional questions that help us personalize your lender matches. These questions are not required, but as a thank you for filling them out we’ll send you a free GetSmart Guide. The guide includes information on different mortgage products, cash-out options and tips on how to choose the best loan solution for your needs.
We’ll display up to five lenders who match your profile. They should contact you within 24 hours, or the next business day. Your matched lenders will explain their loan programs and rate offerings.
2. Choose a lender and apply.
Discuss your needs with the lenders you’re matched with in order to choose the best loan and lender for you. The loan specialist can explain their refinance program details and quote you an interest rate. Be sure to ask plenty of questions before you choose a loan or lender. (For more information read: 6 Questions to Ask About Refinancing.
When you are ready to apply, the lender will ask you more detailed questions about your property, current mortgage balance, and income, as well as let you know what documentation you need to provide (W-2’s, for instance). There is often an application fee, which is sometimes credited back to you at closing. Once you’ve submitted an application, you will receive a Good Faith Estimate (GFE) and Truth in Lending Statement from the lender. Review both documents carefully. For more information on reading a GFE, see our article, How to Read a Good-Faith Estimate (GFE).
3. Sign the papers. . .and celebrate.
After you’ve submitted your refinance application and your lender approves your loan, your lender will schedule a closing date, when you will sign the papers for your new mortgage. Depending on the lender, this is usually three to four weeks after you submit the application. This is the date that your new mortgage goes into effect, and your refinance process is complete!
